Painting has been a big part of my life for years – raised in a small town in western New York, my mom was a painter and my first painting teacher. Professionally trained as an art educator I was taught to paint in oil which I liked but didn’t continue. After art school in Buffalo, NY I explored printmaking and acrylics on my own but I found my true passion when I painted with watercolors years later; I loved the transparency, layering possibilities, and strong color.
We raised our daughters in Michigan and have lived in New York, Maryland, Florida and North Carolina. I taught and did education administration at various levels – preschool through college for many years. When we moved to Durham NC, I studied watercolor for a long while, and then taught beginning and continuing watercolor at the Durham Arts Council School. I now paint full time, sell my work in local galleries and through my studio, on-line, and in state, regional and national exhibitions. My painting style is usually stylized realism but sometimes I’ve ventured into abstracts with a sense of humor. I am a traveling artist – painting and sketching everywhere we go. I’m proud to be a Signature Member of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina, a Member of Excellence in the SCWatermedia Society, and a new member of the Watercolor Honor Society.
