Downtown Florence Plein Air Competition

$25 Per Person, open to the public

Lunch, provided by Victors, is included in the registration fee and will be a pre-prepared box artists may pick up at check-in and take with them to their painting sites. Please register using the form below.

Paint wherever you like within a three-block radius of Downtown Florence. In case of inclement weather, sheltered painting areas will be available. Paintings must be in a water-based medium such as watercolor, gauche or acrylic. No oils or water-soluble oils will be accepted into the juried awards.

First, second and third place, as well as honorable mention, will be awarded.

Timeline: 
9:00-10:00 a.m. – Check-in at Hyatt Place Hotel – Meeting Room on first floor.(park in rear of hotel)

4:30 – 5:30 p.m. – Return to Hyatt Place for judging and displaying.

4:00 – 5:00 p.m. – While waiting on judging, enjoy a demo by South Carolina Artist Anne Patterson Hightower in the Hyatt Place Hotel Lobby.

5:30 p.m. – Awards presentation

Display:
Works will remain on display until Saturday, November 9. Pick up will be at Hyatt Hotel at 4:30 p.m.

How to display your artwork:
Canvas – Paint around edges, no frame needed
Paper – Must be matted, a protective sleeve will be provided

Sales will be through the individual artist; no commission will be charged on sales.

SCWS, Hyatt Place, and individuals affiliated with the event assume no responsibility for theft, damage, liability or personal injury.

Parking: Parking is available in the rear of Hyatt Place.

Following is a list of items to bring with you.

  • Chair
  • Weather-appropriate clothing (Florence November weather averages 67°F high/44°F low)
  • Palette, brushes and paint
  • Tray to hold palette
  • Canvas, or
  • Watercolor paper taped to a hard surface such as Gator Board
  • Plastic container for water (NO GLASS) and a bottle of water for your painting
  • Paper towels
  • Mat (for works on paper)
  • Tape to attach mat to watercolor paper
  • Roll cart to transport all materials to your spot
